Q&A: Ear stretching, silicone earskin plugs?
Question by .: Ear stretching, silicone earskin plugs?
Hey guys I’m thinking about getting some Kaos Earskin plugs (2g) to wear in a few weeks, and I was wondering what the maintenance on these are? Will I have to clean them everyday, take them off during the shower, and etc? I usually wear Steel plugs, which require very little maintenance (I’m too lazy to wash my plugs every day, or week even), so any help would be appreciated.
So is it okay to wear them in the shower everyday then?

i had to wear these at work, one thing i noticed right away, if you don’t clean them at least 3x/wk the smell of the gauges start to be a bit stronger. Other than that, i didn’t really have to do anything else to it, but later on i got into the habit of taking them out and cleaning them during each shower.
Just remember to clean them a few times a wk and that’ll be all you have to worry about.
What do you think? Answer below!

They’re so comfortable I forget I’m wearing them so I often leave them in when I shower etc. and they’re fine (They’re amazing for sleeping in. Don’t feel them at all) . They dont get caught on things as easy so that helps too. I dont clean them everyday, i often forget to but they’re so easy to clean you can just do it in the shower a few times a week or whenever you remember to. I clean mine with alcohol gel occasionally.
I would however recommend you replace them once or twice a year because I’ve recently got an infection from nowhere and my dad thinks the reason is due to the fact that I’ve worn this one every day for a year. Its white and the silicone seems to have gone yellowed on the inside where its against the skin. He said silicone is slightly pourous so its probably soaked up some bad bacteria. Just replace them every so often. They don’t cost loads though so that shouldn’t be a problem

I have to actually get the edge of earskins under my fingernails and yank those babies out, they fit very snugly. So while I think no one should leave their jewelry in while showering (ew) they probably aren’t going to fall out even if you’re trying to make them.
I can’t imagine what material would be appropriate to wear for a week without taking it out, to wash your ears if not the jewelry. I mean seriously, a week? I can go a long time without showering, but not without washing my face and ears. Even if you’re wearing wood, horn, bone, or something else that doesn’t get washed, seems like you really should be washing your ears. Honestly, since silicone does fit so snugly and won’t absorb ear cheese, I think not taking them out at least once every few days to wash could be uncomfortable.
And four is green’s dad is right, silicone is very slightly porous. So over a year, it can absorb some serious nasty stuff that can’t be reached with soap and water. Switching out porous jewelry often is good, because it gives some time for germs to die off away from your warm, moist skin where they enjoy living.
